新年看了電視(3) - Code Geass

前陣子, 在一臺劇看到皇民化運動時期一位父親訓話家人説人是不平等的, 他的家人還反駁説他被日本思想影響太深。

剛好新年看了 Code Geass, 當看到第六話 Britannia 國王説人類不是平等時, 想起了那一幕, 輕輕地笑了出來。

另外, 知道了朱雀這麼賣命是因為贖罪後, 想起了在恩雨之聲中聽過有關對人的比喻: 就像石頭被拿開, 下面藏着很多蟲子。

新年看了電視(2) - 看傻了眼的聲優比賽

看了 Code Geass 的 Special, 當中有一個 B-GIRL 選舉, 看到我傻了眼 @_@

原因是不懂日文的我最初以為那只是一個聲優比賽, 但那些女生還要表演才藝和穿著比基尼泳裝... 比賽完畢後, 訪問優勝者時, 還穿著比基尼呢! 看得我即時用廣東話説: 「駛唔駛呀!」

事後我查了一下, 那優勝者的確在 Code Geass 中配音, 是配 Shirley 的室友。

新年看了電視(1) - 風水與股市

這幾天看了很多網上電視。 其中有 CNN 在年初一的一則有趣報導。

訪問是在香港做的, 有一男子在股票市場上兩個月賺得三倍利潤, 問到他的賺錢要訣, 他的答覆是: 「風水 (Feng Shui)」。 接著, 操一口流利英語的玄學專家作了來年的股票市場分析。

我認為最妙的是報導完結時, 卻是由一位身穿「財神衫」的長者用廣東話説風水只是迷信 XD

從網上知道香港的豬年賀歲電影有小豬做主角的 Charlotte's Web, 還起了個可愛名字 - 莎樂的神奇網網。

前陣子開始在美國上映時我巳決定出 DVD 時會租來看, 理由是那豬豬 Wilbur 很可愛... XD。 不是嗱~~ 真正的理由是我中學不記得是一、或是二年級 English Literature 班上讀過這本書, 對它印象很深, 現在還記得書的封面。 但那時我沒用心上課, 只記得故事中段, 對前段和結局就毫無印象, 但我心裏知道這是個很好的故事, 所以很想從頭到尾再看一次。

小時候覺得奇怪, 為什麼大家會忽略了 Charlotte? 她是一隻會寫字的蜘蛛啊! 直到了現在才明白因為大家眼裏只有在前線的可愛豬豬, 在背後的肉酸蜘蛛永遠也會被人忽視...

我的 Shuttle XPC 復活了!

Got the replacement PSU for my Shuttle XPC! \(^o^)/

I got this machine long time ago, you can tell it's old because it's an Athlon XP 2000+ >_<

I don't remember when did the computer start to act funny, maybe one to two years ago... After I pushed the power button, I needed to wait from 5 minutes to 2 hours for it to boot up. After performing some tests and searching the web, I concluded it needed a new PSU.

At that time, I found the replacement PSU with S/H cost was about $70 @_@ Since I have another computer, so I didn't want to spend $70 on an "obsoleting" computer. However, I love this guy so much (because it's cute and everything XD), I just let it sat on my desk.

After my family got the LCD HDTV, we connected the Shuttle XPC to the TV (because it looks cool XD), and we eventually started to use it quite a lot to watch videos from the internet. So I started the quest to look for the PSU again...

Two weeks ago, I found a replacement PSU in Amazon for only $29 + $6(S/H)= $35! It was shipped promptly after I placed the order and arrived to it's new home safely :)

紅酒煮餸?

逛超市時在促銷哥哥的花言巧語下買了枝紅酒, 不太好喝, 又不想浪費, 就「貪得意」學電視上的烹飪節目, 用紅酒煮餸。 那些棗紅色的洋蔥和蘑菇竟出乎意料地好味。

畢業證書 & 機本生存的能力

當我初次聽到這事時, 巳有一些想法, 現在才完成這篇~ (真慢 >_<)

從去年, 2006年起, 加州的高中畢業生須要考一個統一高中畢業試, California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)。 不論學生在自己就讀學校成績有多優秀或差勁, 在試中考合格的學生才可獲得高中畢業證書。 (一些殘障人士則豁免。)

其實加州早在 2001 年巳設立這個高中畢業試, 並打算在2004年實施, 但最終拖延至2006年才真正執行。 在2004至2006年之間畢業的學生, 也可自願參加考試, 但結果不會影響他們能不能畢業。

考的只有兩個科目 - 數學和英文 - 八年級的數學, 十年級的英文。 為甚麼不是考十二年級的? 因為這試的目的只是準備學生有在社會機本生存的能力, 例如基本的讀寫能力和簡單的數學知識。 因為只考八年級和十年級的東西, 所以學生在十年級巳可以考這個試, 也有六次機會。 100分滿分, 數學55分合格, 英文60分合格。 如果最後也不合格, 教育局仍然有其他途徑讓學生獲得畢業證書, 包括重讀, 上成人學校, 夜校等等...

這試其實不難, 合格率高達九成。 偏偏那一成不合格的卻發動示威, 還告上法庭, 説加州高中畢業試是不合法, 他們的理由是這考試對窮人和小數族裔不公平。 我不同意反對畢業試者的説法。 首先, 加州窮人和小數族裔高中畢業生那有一成這麼少! 如果反對者的説法是對的, 不合格的比率應高得多。 再者, 同是小數族裔的亞裔, 合格率卻是和白人一般高。 反對者還把窮人也牽連, 真是可惡!

反對者也找來了一些不合格的學生, 那些學生個個也説自己是在校內成績很好, 有人還自稱是個全A學生 (straight A student), 但因為在加州高中畢業試不合格, 沒獲得高中畢業證書, 所以不能即時入大學。 之前也提過, 這試的合格率是九成, 一個 top student 要不合格, 是很難的, 要不是他們只選修自己擅長或容易的科目, 就是他們作弊。 (不要硬説校內成績比他們差的同學考合格是作弊哦 >_<) 不合格又不服氣的, 要反省! 這個畢業試是想學生在離校前有基本的讀寫能力和簡單的數學知識, 幫助他們以後的日子。 好的讀寫能力尤其令大學生涯更好過。

剛剛記起, 其他州如 Texas 和 Indiana 也有高中畢業試, 我在 FFXI 的朋友也在十年級時考合格。 統一考試也可顯示國家的未來, 假若有天合格率跌至只有三成, 我們就知道前途暗淡了 -_-

Chinese filenames problem

I copied files with chinese filename from openSUSE into the external hard drive, then I tried to view the files in Windows XP, the filenames turned into symbols instead of chinese. Same as with copied from XP to Linux.

Here is how they looked like with a USB flash drive:

openSUSE -> Windows XP

Windows XP -> openSUSE

I searched the web, looks like the two operating systems use different code tables. I am going to looking into the problem more, hope I can find a solution.

打完 Hotel Dusk: Room 215

用了十九小時完成這遊戲。 之前説過這遊戲有很多不同的結局, 打完後我去看 spoiler, 原來「很多不同的結局」是指在離開時, 房客們會否和我説再見, 與及説話內容都因我之前所做的事而有所變化。 若果之前有誤導, 真的很不好意思 Orz。 説回遊戲, 因為我人太好 XD, 每個房客到最後都向我作很友善的道別, Jenny 也回來了, 但是 Mila 沒有跟我離開。

字幕出完後, save game, 在 title screen 選 continue, 遊戲會在 chapter 1 重新開始。 這回可以打開 Room 220, 房裏有 Mila's treasure, 自動販賣機會有不同的東西, 有少許説話內容會不同。 看來第二次十小時也可打完。

手手護理很重要!

試想像一下, 一個面上沒有明顯皺紋, 化淡妝的女士, 她説話急促, 似乎很有幹勁。 我和她的距離不到一公尺, 可能只有半公尺吧。 然後她想寫甚麼給我看, 本來應該專注字的內容, 但在那一刻我的眼睛看到的就只有一隻「巢皮手」, 而且還有老人斑! @_@

其實一雙手可以這樣地出賣一個人, 我是知道了很久, 但真的要有這樣驚嚇的經驗才能喚醒我! 不論花了多少金錢把自己弄得多年輕貌美, 但若不好好護理手手, 也是白廢心機。

從那天起, 我很勤力搽潤手霜, 洗碗必帶手套!

(可惜數天前修理電腦, 把手手弄傷了, 流了很多血 T_T)

openSUSE

I bought the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and ECS C51GM-M combo deal from Fry's about a month ago. Past experiences had told me that motherboard that comes with a combo deal won't last more than a year, however, the price of the combo is the same as the CPU alone... so I brought them home expecting to upgrade the motherboard later.

But first, I needed memory. I looked at the Qualified Vendor List and did research on the internet to find out which vendors and models will work with the motherboard. I went to the store and got the Corsair VS2GBKIT667D2. After I got a case and a DVD drive, I started assembling everything together. They worked ^_^

For a change, I decided to install Linux on it. I downloaded the iso image from the openSUSE site and created a installation DVD from it.

Installation worked smoothly, so smooth that I didn't test the display settings (because Linux had detected the right video card and monitor). When the machine reboot, the screen went blank. I did the "sax2 trick", it still didn't work, so I reinstalled openSUSE again (it was actually faster and much easier). AND MAKE SURE to set the display setting into lower setting.

It worked! ^_^

After I installed the driver downloaded from nVidia, I changed to higher display setting.

Everything is working now ^_^

開始玩 Hotel Dusk: Room 215

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 的廣告也有說, 這是一個 interactive novel, 就像是把十多二十年前的博益自我歷險叢書電玩化。 從討論區裏聽說完成遊戲只要 10-20 小時, 但因為它有很多不同的結局, 所以也有重玩的價值。 [2月8日補充: 打完後我去看 spoiler, 原來「很多不同的結局」是指在離開時, 房客們會否和我説再見, 與及説話內容都因我之前所做的事而有所變化。 若果之前有誤導, 真的很不好意思 Orz。]

Kyle Hyde 原是 NYPD, 他在犯罪集團當卧底的搭檔 Brian Bradley 出賣了警方, Kyle 在追捕 Bradley 時向 Bradley 開槍, Bradley 跌進了紐約 Hudson River, 從此失蹤。 Kyle 亦因為這事而被革職。



三年後, Kyle 在 Red Crown 當推銷員, 但他仍對從前的事耿耿於懷。 在 Red Crown 老闆 Ed 的幫助下, Kyle 一直在尋找 Bradley 的下落 ... ...
